World Team Championship: Silver is a Good Result

The US has finished the World Team Championship in second place. They came in above several teams with higher ELOs. Perhaps the best thing that happened in Turkey is that Hess and Robson got to hang out at a very high level. Next up: three of the team members--Nakamura, Akobian, and Robson--will play at Corus in the A, B, and C Groups respectively. Here's the USCF report.

World Team Championship: Slow Slav

The U.S. and Russia have separated themselves from the rest of the field. The two are tied in both match and game points, although Russia is likely to have a strong tiebreak advantage in most scenarios due to its victory over the U.S.

Nakamura played another good game today, taking down GM Leitao in a Slow Slav.

World Team Championship: US Defeats Israel

The US defeated Israel today 2.5 - 1.5 behind Nakamura and Onischuk. Nakamura mixed it up with Gelfand in a wild variation of the King's Indian, and it was the World Cup champ who lost his way.

Russia brought the US back to the pack today. Half the field now has two wins and one loss (4 match points), with Armenia leading by 1/2 game point. Nakamura and Onischuk drew with Grischuk and Morozevich respectively, but Shulman and Akobian lost on boards 3 and 4 against Malakhov and Vitiugov (pictured). Akobian lost with the white pieces.
